We are talking about Yandex.Rover. This autonomous robot for transporting small loads was in November last year. A six-wheeled vehicle about half a meter high can move along city sidewalks at the speed of a pedestrian.
The rover is equipped with a set of sensors that allow it to recognize objects, plan a route, avoid obstacles, skip pedestrians and animals. Power is provided by the battery pack.
It is reported that so far the robot has been tested at the headquarters of Yandex, where it transported documents between buildings. Tests have shown that the rover works great in the dark, is not afraid of rain, snow and ice.
Today, February 14, on Valentine's Day, the robot received a new task: it delivers parcels from the Beru marketplace to Yandex employees.
“The daily courier robot has become one of the delivery options that Beru offers to Yandex employees. Those who have such an opportunity first receive a request for readiness to accept an order. If a person is free, he indicates the number of the entrance to which you need to bring the parcel. After that, the rover sets off, and the recipient can follow its movements on the order page, ”says the Russian IT giant.
After the robot arrives at its destination, it will be enough for the user to open the cargo compartment through the mobile application and pick up the package. Here's what it looks like in practice:
