The release of the Mir 2.2 display server has been announced, which continues to be developed by Canonical, despite the discontinuation of the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand for Canonical projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a compositor server for Wayland, allowing any applications using Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3\/4, Qt5, or SDL2) to run in Mir-based environments. Installation packages have been prepared for Ubuntu 20.04\/20.10\/21.04 (PPA) and Fedora 32\/33\/34. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n

Work has been done to adapt Mir's software interfaces related to graphical platform support for use on systems with hybrid graphics. In particular, the mg::Platform API has been split into DisplayPlatform and RenderingPlatform, allowing different GPUs to be used for output and rendering.\n
The option «—driver-quirks» has been added to gbm-kms to bypass device checks that cause crashes.\n
The performance of Mir on the X11 platform has improved: the code to support the X11 platform has been moved from XLib to XCB, and the ability to resize windows with Mir-based applications displayed in the X11 environment has been added.\n
