Brave, the company behind the eponymous web browser focused on user privacy, has launched the beta version of its search engine search.brave.com, which is closely integrated with the browser and does not track visitors. The search engine aims to preserve confidentiality and is built on the technologies of the now-defunct search engine Cliqz, which was acquired by Brave last year. <\/p>\n
To ensure privacy when using the search engine, search queries, clicks, and the user\u2019s interest profile are not tracked (details of the implementation are not provided, but to select the most relevant materials, Cliqz used a model based on the analysis of anonymous logs of queries and clicks made by users in the browser; in Brave Search, it is only generally mentioned that the system is based on the anonymous contributions of the community for refining results and alternative ranking models prepared by the community). <\/p>\n
To filter information that is of interest to the user, a system of filters is proposed, which the user can enable or disable at their discretion. For creating filters, a subject-oriented language called Goggles is offered. It is worth noting that the Brave web browser is developed under the guidance of Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript and former head of Mozilla. The browser is built on the Chromium engine, focused on user privacy, includes an integrated ad-blocking engine, can operate through Tor, provides built-in support for HTTPS Everywhere, IPFS, and WebTorrent, and offers an alternative funding mechanism for publishers based on subscriptions.
