Red Hat developers have started forming builds of CentOS Stream 9, a continuously updated edition of CentOS, which serves as the basis for the development of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. CentOS Stream allows earlier access to the features of the upcoming RHEL branch, but includes packages that are not yet fully stabilized. CentOS Stream is designed to allow community contributors to participate in the development of a new branch of RHEL. CentOS Stream can be viewed as an upstream project for RHEL, serving as the foundation for its development. External participants can oversee the preparation of packages for RHEL, propose their changes, and influence the decisions made. Previously, a snapshot of one of the Fedora releases was used as the basis for a new RHEL branch, which was refined and stabilized behind closed doors, without any control over the development process or decisions made.
