The InitWare project, developing an experimental fork of the system manager systemd, has implemented support for the OpenBSD operating system in terms of user service management (user manager \u2014 mode 'iwctl \u2014user', allowing users to manage their own services). PID1 and system services are not yet supported. Previously, similar support was provided for DragonFly BSD, with service management capabilities for system services and login management for NetBSD and FreeBSD. The next step will be to implement support for user service management for Illumos.

The InitWare project aims to create a portable and modular system manager that can operate on systems other than Linux. Unlike systemd, this project does not attempt to cover everything and focuses only on service management, user sessions, and login management. Components for device management (udev), network configuration (networkd), DNS resolution (resolved), and logging (journald) are excluded. <\/p>\n
In InitWare, efforts are made to maintain a high level of compatibility with key systemd entities, such as unit files, systemctl and loginctl commands (in InitWare \u2014 iwctl and iwloginctl), the systemd1 process, the sd_notify API, and D-Bus interfaces for login management. For Linux-specific interfaces that cannot be reproduced in other operating systems, analog support is implemented where possible; for example, instead of namespaces and cgroups in FreeBSD for isolation, the jail mechanism is used, and KQueue is used for tracking process states (an event filter PROC is attached to each process).
