Collabora has announced the certification of the Panfrost graphics driver by the Khronos organization, which successfully passed all tests of the CTS (Khronos Conformance Test Suite) and is recognized as fully compliant with the OpenGL ES 3.1 specification. The driver is certified for use with the Mali-G52 GPU, but certification for other chips is planned for the future. In particular, uncertified support for OpenGL ES 3.1 has already been implemented for the Mali-G31 and Mali-G72 chips, which have an architecture similar to that of the Mali-G52. Full compatibility with OpenGL ES 3.1 has not yet been achieved for the Mali-T860 GPU and older chips. <\/p>\n
Obtaining the certificate allows for official claims of compatibility with graphics standards and the use of related Khronos trademarks. Certification also opens doors for the use of the Panfrost driver in commercial products that include the Mali G52 GPU. The verification was conducted in an environment with the Debian GNU\/Linux 11 distribution, Mesa, and X.Org X Server 1.20.11. The Panfrost driver was founded in 2018 by Alyssa Rosenzweig, who works at Collabora, and was developed based on reverse engineering of the original drivers from ARM. Since the last code, developers have established cooperation with ARM, which provided the necessary information and documentation. Currently, the driver supports working with chips based on the Midgard (Mali-T6xx, Mali-T7xx, Mali-T8xx) and Bifrost (Mali G3x, G5x, G7x) microarchitectures.
