The release of the desktop-oriented operating system MidnightBSD 2.1 has taken place, based on FreeBSD with elements ported from DragonFly BSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD. The base desktop environment is built on GNUstep, but users have the option to install WindowMaker, GNOME, Xfce, or Lumina. An installation image of size 743 MB (x86, amd64) is available for download. <\/p>\n
Unlike other desktop builds of FreeBSD, MidnightBSD was originally developed as a fork of FreeBSD 6.1-beta, which was synchronized with the FreeBSD 7 codebase in 2011 and subsequently incorporated many features from FreeBSD branches 9, 10, and 11. MidnightBSD uses the mport package management system, which employs an SQLite database for storing indexes and metadata. Installation, removal, and searching for packages are performed using a single mport command. <\/p>\n
Drivers ctau (Cronyx Tau) and cx (Cronyx Sigma) have been deprecated.\n
Improvements have been made to the mport package manager. The process of updating dependencies during the installation or upgrade of packages has been streamlined. Correct encoding is ensured when extracting files from archives that contain non-ASCII characters in file names. SHA256 hashes are used to verify the integrity of plist elements.\n
The generation of the os-release file in \/var\/run has been ensured.\n
The burncd package has been removed from the distribution. <\/ul>\n
