The release of the Live distribution Redo Rescue 4.0.0 has been published, designed for creating backups and restoring systems in case of failures or data corruption. The state snapshots created by the distribution can be fully or selectively cloned to a new disk (with a new partition table created) or used to restore system integrity after malware activity, hardware failures, or accidental data deletion. The distribution uses the Debian codebase and the partclone toolkit from the Clonezilla project. Redo Rescue's contributions are distributed under the GPLv3 license. The size of the ISO image is 726 MB. <\/p>\n

Backups can be saved to locally connected media (USB Flash, CD\/DVD, disks) as well as to external partitions accessed via NFS, SSH, FTP, or Samba\/CIFS (an automatic search for available shared partitions on the local network is performed). Remote management of backups and restorations is supported via VNC or a web interface. Backup integrity can be verified using digital signatures. Notable features also include the ability to transfer source data to other partitions, selective recovery mode, advanced disk and partition management tools, detailed operation logging, a built-in web browser, file manager for copying and editing files, and a set of diagnostic utilities. <\/p>\n

The new release transitions to the Debian 11 package base. Besides updates to program versions, all functionality of the distribution corresponds to the previous release (3.0.2). It is recommended to use the new branch with caution for now, as new versions of utilities such as partclone and sfdisk may contain changes that disrupt backward compatibility. It is noted that major non-obvious issues with transitioning to new Debian branches were resolved during the transition to Debian 10 in Redo Rescue 3.x.
