The release of the Libreboot distribution 20211122 has been published. This is the third release within the GNU project and continues to be presented as a testing version, as it requires additional stabilization and testing. Libreboot develops a fully free fork from the CoreBoot project, providing a binary-free alternative to proprietary UEFI and BIOS firmwares responsible for initializing CPU, memory, peripherals, and other hardware components. <\/p>\n
Libreboot aims to create a system environment allowing complete avoidance of proprietary software, not only at the operating system level but also in the firmware that ensures booting. Libreboot does not just strip CoreBoot of non-free components but also adds tools to simplify usage for end-users, forming a distribution that any user without special skills can utilize. <\/p>\n
Among the hardware supported by Libreboot: <\/p>\n

Desktop systems include Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L, Intel D510MO, Intel D410PT, Intel D945GCLF, and Apple iMac 5,2.\n
Servers and workstations: ASUS KCMA-D8, ASUS KGPE-D16, ASUS KFSN4-DRE.\n
Changes have been transferred from CoreBoot 4.14 and the new versions of SeaBIOS and GRUB.\n
Support for Tianocore (an open implementation of UEFI) has been removed from the build system due to maintenance issues and unresolved problems. As a replacement, a u-root-based payload environment, Linux kernel, and Busybox will be included in Libreboot.\n
Issues with using SeaBIOS (an open implementation of BIOS) on ASUS KGPE-D16 and KCMA-D8 motherboards have been resolved.\n
The number of boards for which 16-megabyte builds (with busybox and linux) are created has been expanded. For example, such expanded builds have been added for ASUS KGPE-D16, ThinkPad X60, and T60.\n
The number of builds that include the memtest86+ application by default has increased. A non-original memtest86+ fork from the Coreboot project has been used, which eliminates issues when operating at the firmware level.\n
A patch has been added to the ThinkPad T400 builds to extend support for SATA\/eSATA, for example, to use additional SATA ports on T400S laptops.\n
In grub.cfg, support for LUKS with mdraid has been implemented, with optimizations made to accelerate the search for encrypted LUKS partitions, increasing the timeout from 1 to 10 seconds.\n
Support for the third mode «C state» has been implemented for MacBook2,1 and Macbook1,1, allowing for reduced CPU temperature and extended battery life.\n
Restart issues on GM45 platforms (ThinkPad X200\/T400\/T500) have been resolved. <\/ul>\n
