Ethan Smith, one of the main developers of MyPyC, the compiler that converts Python modules into C code, announced the addition of changes to the CPython codebase (the core implementation of Python) that allow the main branch of CPython to be built for operation within a browser, without requiring additional patches. The build is performed to a universal low-level intermediate code WebAssembly using the Emscripten compiler.

The work was approved by Guido van Rossum, the creator of the Python programming language, who additionally proposed integrating Python support into the GitHub web service github.dev, which provides an interactive development environment that operates entirely within the browser. Jonathan Carter from Microsoft mentioned that work is currently underway to implement Python support in github.dev, but in the existing prototype of the computing environment Jupyter for github.dev, the Pyodide project was used (a build of Python 3.9 runtime in WebAssembly). <\/p>\n
