The release of the raster graphics editor Krita 5.0.0 has been announced, designed for artists and illustrators. The editor supports multi-layer image processing, offers tools for working with various color models, and comes with a wide range of features for digital painting, sketching, and texture creation. Standalone AppImage packages for Linux, experimental APK files for ChromeOS and Android, and binary builds for macOS and Windows are prepared for installation. <\/p>\n

The user interface has been modernized. Icons have been updated. The brush editor can now be detached from the panel into a separate window. An option to hide control elements in the overview panel has been added. A feature to dock panels has been introduced. The code for resource handling, such as brushes, gradients, and palettes, has been completely rewritten, and the tagging system has been redesigned. The new implementation uses the SQLite library and notably resolves many old issues that arose when loading resources and working with tags. All resources are now loaded at once, resulting in reduced startup time and a significant decrease in memory consumption (in typical tests, memory use dropped by 200 MB).\n
A new resource package manager has been implemented. The ability to set the location of the resource directory, which was previously hardcoded, has been added. In addition to working with standard resource packages, support for brush libraries and layer styles prepared for Photoshop has been introduced.

A new Resource Manager interface has been added, which supports group tagging of brushes, allows for the deletion and restoration of resources, and displays all tags associated with a resource. Support for animating the position, rotation, scaling, and shift of any layer using a transform mask has been added.\n

A built-in storyboard editor has been introduced, allowing the creation of sequences of images that visually preview the composition of future scenes, showing the placement of characters and significant objects, and their sequence according to the storyline.

Support for pasting directly into the active layer from the clipboard has been implemented. A new layer filtering widget has been added, enabling layer selection by name.

Support for AVIF image format has been added. A new plugin for WebP format support, based on the libwebp library, has been introduced. Improved support for Tiff and Heif formats. The ability to resize images when exporting has been implemented. A new KRZ format has been introduced, which is a variant of KRA optimized for archiving (with compression and no preview).\n
New plugins have been added: GDQuest Batch Exporter (to export resources in batch mode) and Photobash (for quick import and management of resources for photographs). A feature to install plugins from the web by entering the plugin URL in the import form has been introduced.\n
A dialog that pops up when pressing CTRL + Enter has been added for quick search of all actions and operations supported in Krita.
