The release of the open raster graphics editor Pinta 2.0 has been published, representing an attempt to rewrite the Paint.NET application using GTK. The editor provides a basic set of drawing and image editing capabilities, targeting beginner users. The interface is simplified as much as possible, the editor supports an unlimited undo buffer, allows working with multiple layers, and is equipped with a set of tools for applying various effects and image corrections. The Pinta source code is distributed under the MIT license. The project is written in C# using Mono and the Gtk# binding. Binary builds are prepared for Linux (Flatpak, Snap), macOS, and Windows.

The program has been updated to use the GTK 3 library and the .NET 6 framework. The appearance of many widgets and dialogs has been refreshed, with native dialogs for each platform utilized, and the color and file selection dialogs have been revamped. The text addition tool uses the standard GTK font selector widget.\n
Support for GTK3 themes has been added.\n
Improved support for high-density pixel (high-DPI) screens.\n
The menu for recently opened files has been removed; this functionality is now integrated into the file dialog.\n
The sidebar with the list of edited images has been removed in favor of tabs. Now, only the layers and history panels are displayed on the right side of the screen.\n
A status bar has been added, displaying information about position, selection, scale, and palette.\n
The toolbar has been made narrower (one column instead of two) by relocating the palette to the bottom status bar.\n
The palette interface has been redesigned. A block for recently used colors has been added. The colors of the primary and secondary palettes are now saved in the application settings.\n
Tools now retain settings between restarts.\n
The ability to pan the canvas by clicking and dragging the mouse has been added.\n
On macOS, a global menu is used instead of a window menu. The installers for macOS and Windows now include all necessary dependencies (there is no longer a need to install GTK and .NET \/ Mono separately).\n
The performance of fill and smart selection has been improved. <\/ul>\n
