The far2l project, which has been developing a port of Far Manager for Linux, BSD, and macOS since 2016, has entered the beta testing phase, with corresponding changes made in the repository on January 12. Currently, the port, described on the project page as a fork, supports operation in both console and graphical modes. The plugins colorer, multiarc, tmppanel, align, autowrap, drawline, editcase, SimpleIndent, Calculator have been ported, and a custom plugin called NetRocks has been created, which functions as an analog of NetBox based on libraries commonly used in *nix distributions; a plugin for writing plugins in Python with code examples has also been developed. The project's developments are distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n

Recent changes added to far2l include the \"hybrid input\" mode, in which key combination recognition in console mode is achieved not only by analyzing characters in the terminal but also by simultaneously polling the keyboard via X11.server<\/a>This input method allows for distinguishing, for example, the key \"+\" on the numeric keypad from the \"+\" key in the top row, which is also associated with the symbol \"=\". This mode can work over ssh when using the option \"ssh -X\" (installation of the libx11 and libxi libraries is required on the client side). server<\/a>In addition to comprehensive support for all key combinations needed by Far Manager, the integration with X11 allows for using the \"X11\" clipboard in the console. <\/p>\n

Among other important changes is the removal of code that is license-incompatible with Debian, as part of the effort to prepare a deb package for Debian. There are also portable builds of far2l for Linux distributions on amd64, i386, and aarch64 architectures, running on shared hosting with ssh access, where it is not possible to install your own package or compile far2l from source. <\/p>\n

It is also worth mentioning the recently created fork of the ssh client KiTTY with support for far2l terminal extensions. These extensions allow the use of all key combinations and a shared clipboard while working with far2l from Windows. There is also an unofficial Russian-language Telegram chat for the project.
