The Cassowary project develops a toolkit that allows users to run Windows applications in a virtual machine or on another computer as if they were native standalone applications on the Linux desktop. Windows applications are launched through a shortcut in the Linux environment and opened in separate windows, similar to standard Linux applications. The reverse task is also supported \u2014 Linux programs can be called from the Windows environment. <\/p>\n

The project offers applications for configuring a Windows virtual machine and enabling access to application windows. The virtual machine is launched using virt-manager and KVM, and FreeRDP is used to access program windows. A graphical interface is provided for configuring the environment and proxying the windows of individual applications. The project code is written in Python (GUI based on PyQt5) and is released under the GPLv2 license.

During operation, Windows programs gain access to files in the user's home directory on the host system, while native Linux programs can access files in the Windows virtual machine.
