A corrective release of Firefox 97.0.2 and 91.6.1 is now available, addressing two vulnerabilities classified as critical issues. These vulnerabilities allow bypassing sandbox isolation and executing arbitrary code with browser privileges when processing specially crafted content. It is reported that active exploits for both issues have been identified and are already being used for attacks. <\/p>\n

Details are not yet disclosed, but it is known that the first vulnerability (CVE-2022-26485) is related to a use-after-free issue in the code for handling XSLT parameters, while the second (CVE-2022-26486) involves accessing already freed memory in the WebGPU IPC framework. <\/p>\n

All users of browsers based on the Firefox engine are urged to urgently install updates. Users of the Tor Browser, which is based on the Firefox 91 ESR branch, should be especially cautious about installing updates, as these vulnerabilities could lead not only to system compromise but also to user de-anonymization. An update addressing these vulnerabilities for the Tor Browser has not yet been formulated.
