Debian developers have announced the package freeze plan for the upcoming Debian 12 'Bookworm'. The release of Debian 12 is expected in mid-2023. <\/p>\n
The first phase of the package freeze will begin on January 12, 2023, during which 'transitions' (updates to packages that require adjustments to dependencies of other packages, leading to their temporary removal from Testing) will be halted, along with updates to essential build packages. <\/p>\n
On February 12, 2023, a soft freeze of the package base will take place, during which the acceptance of new source packages will cease, and the possibility of re-including previously removed packages will be closed. <\/p>\n
On March 12, 2023, a hard freeze will be implemented before the release, during which the process of moving key packages and packages without autopkgtests from unstable to testing will be completely halted, and an intensive testing and resolution stage for blocking release issues will begin. This hard freeze stage is being introduced for the first time and is considered a necessary intermediate step before a full freeze that encompasses all packages.
