The release of Proxmox Virtual Environment 7.2 has been published, a specialized Linux distribution based on Debian GNU\/Linux, aimed at deploying and managing virtual servers using LXC and KVM, capable of serving as a replacement for products such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Hypervisor. The size of the installation ISO image is 994 MB. <\/p>\n
Proxmox VE provides tools for deploying a fully functional industrial-grade virtual server system, managed through a web interface designed for handling hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines. The distribution includes built-in tools for organizing backups of virtual environments and offers out-of-the-box clustering support, including the ability to migrate virtual environments from one node to another without downtime. Features of the web interface include: support for secure VNC console; role-based access management to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.); and support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE authentication). <\/p>\n

Added support for the VirGL driver, implemented based on the OpenGL API, providing the guest system with a virtual GPU for 3D rendering without exposing exclusive direct access to the physical GPU. By default, support for the SPICE remote access protocol is enabled for VirtIO and VirGL.\n
Added support for defining backup job templates with notes, where substitutions with the virtual machine name ({{guestname}}) or cluster name ({{cluster}}) can be used for easier searching and categorizing of backups.\n
In the Ceph file system, support for erasure coding has been added, allowing the recovery of lost blocks.\n
Updated LXC container templates. New templates have been added for Ubuntu 22.04, Devuan 4.0, and Alpine 3.15.\n
In the ISO image, the memory integrity testing utility memtest86+ has been replaced with a completely rewritten version 6.0b, supporting UEFI and modern memory types such as DDR5.\n
Improvements have been made to the web interface. The backup settings section has been redesigned. Added the ability to transmit private keys to an external Ceph cluster through the GUI. Support for reassigning a virtual machine disk or container partition to another guest system on the same node has been added.\n
