After more than two years since the last update, the release of the LXLE Focal distribution has been prepared, which is designed for use on outdated systems. The LXLE distribution is based on Ubuntu MinimalCD and aims to provide a lightweight solution that combines support for legacy hardware with a modern user environment. The need for a separate branch arose from the desire to include additional drivers for older systems and to redesign the user interface. The size of the boot image is 1.8 GB. <\/p>\n

The distribution includes the LibreWolf browser for navigating the web (a recompiled version of Firefox with modifications aimed at enhancing security and privacy).<\/a>For messaging, uTox is included, and Claws Mail is provided for email. Updates are managed by a proprietary update manager, uCareSystem, which runs via cron to eliminate unnecessary background processes. By default, the Btrfs filesystem is offered. The graphical environment is based on LXDE components, the Compton composite manager, the Fehlstart program launcher interface, and applications from the LXQt, MATE, and Linux Mint projects. <\/p>\n

The composition of the new release is synchronized with the package base of the LTS branch of Ubuntu 20.04.4 (previously based on Ubuntu 18.04). Replacements for default applications include: Arista replaced by HandBrake, Pinta by GIMP, Pluma by Mousepad, Seamonkey by LibreWolf, Abiword\/Gnumeric by LibreOffice, Mirage by Viewnior, and Linphone\/Pidgin by uTox. Included are: the App Grid application installer, the Blanket sound synthesizer, the Bluetooth configurator, the Claws Mail email client, the Liferea RSS reader, the GAdmin-Rsync backup utility, the GAdmin-Samba file sharing setup program, the Osmo scheduler, and the TLP GUI for power consumption optimization. To compress information in the swap space, Zswap is used instead of Zram. An interface for configuring pop-up notifications has been added.
