The release of the Firefox 101 web browser has taken place. Additionally, an update for the long-term support branch 91.10.0 has been formed. The Firefox 102 branch has entered beta testing, with a release scheduled for June 28. <\/p>\n
Key innovations in Firefox 101: <\/p>\n

Experimental support for the third version of the Chrome manifest has been implemented, defining the capabilities and resources available for extensions written using the WebExtensions API. In the Firefox version of the Chrome manifest, a new declarative content filtering API has been added, but unlike Chrome, support for the legacy blocking mode of the webRequest API\u2014a feature sought after in extensions for blocking unwanted content and ensuring security\u2014has not been terminated. To enable support for the third version of the manifest, the 'extensions.manifestV3.enabled' parameter is provided in about:config.\n
Handlers can now be bound to all MIME types triggered after the files of the specified type have been downloaded.\n
The ability to simultaneously use an arbitrary number of microphones during video conferencing has been implemented, allowing for easy switching of microphones during events.\n
Support for the WebDriver BiDi protocol has been enabled, allowing the use of external tools for browser automation and remote control. For example, the protocol enables interface testing using the Selenium platform. Both server-side and client-side components of the protocol are supported, allowing for requests to be sent and responses to be received.\n
Support for the prefers-contrast media query has been added, enabling websites to determine the user\u2019s settings for displaying content with increased or decreased contrast.\n
Support for three new viewport sizes has been added: 'small' (s), 'large' (l), and 'dynamic' (d), as well as associated units of measurement: '*vi' (vi, svi, lvi, and dvi), '*vb' (vb, svb, lvb, and dvb), '*vh' (svh, lvh, dvh), '*vw' (svw, lvw, dvw), '*vmax' (svmax, lvmax, dvmax), and '*vmin' (svmin, lvmin, and dvmin). These proposed units allow the size of elements to be tied to the smallest, largest, and dynamic viewport size in percentage terms (the size changes depending on the display, hiding, and state of the toolbar).\n
The HTMLInputElement class has been added with the showPicker() method, which allows to display ready-made dialogs for filling in typical values in fields with types 'date', 'month', 'week', 'time', 'datetime-local', 'color', and 'file', as well as for fields supporting autofill and datalist selection. For example, it is possible to show a calendar interface for selecting a date or a palette for entering a color.\n
A new API has been added, allowing a JavaScript application to dynamically create stylesheets and manipulate the application of styles. Unlike creating stylesheets using the document.createElement('style') method, the new API adds means for constructing styles through the CSSStyleSheet() object, providing methods such as insertRule, deleteRule, replace, and replaceSync.\n
In the page inspection panel, when adding or removing class names using the button «.cls» in the Rule View tab, interactive application of suggestions from the autocomplete dropdown is implemented, offering an overview of class names available for the page. As you navigate the list, selected classes are automatically applied for a visual assessment of the changes they cause.

A new option has been added to the inspection panel settings to disable the 'drag to update' feature in the Rule View tab, allowing the adjustment of some CSS properties through horizontal mouse dragging.

Firefox for Android has added support for a feature introduced in Android 9 that enhances screen area sizes, allowing, for example, to enlarge web form content. Issues with video size while viewing YouTube or exiting the picture-in-picture mode have been resolved. The flickering of the virtual keyboard when displaying the popup menu has been fixed. The display of the QR code button in the address bar has been improved. <\/ul>\n
In addition to new features and bug fixes, Firefox 101 has addressed 30 vulnerabilities, 25 of which are marked as critical. Nineteen vulnerabilities (labeled CVE-2022-31747 and CVE-2022-31748) are caused by memory management issues, such as buffer overflows and accessing already freed memory areas. These issues could potentially allow an attacker to execute code by opening specially crafted pages. Additionally, a Windows-specific problem has been fixed that allowed the path to a saved file to be modified by using special characters «%» for variable path substitutions, such as %HOMEPATH% and %APPDATA%. <\/p>\n
