Grafana Labs, the developer of the Grafana data visualization platform and the Prometheus monitoring system, has announced the release of the source code for the OnCall incident response system, designed to facilitate collaboration among teams addressing and analyzing incidents. OnCall was previously offered as a proprietary product and was acquired by Grafana during its acquisition of Amixr Inc. last year. The project's code is written in Python and is released under the AGPLv3 license. <\/p>\n

The system allows for the collection of information about anomalies and events from various monitoring systems, which are then automatically grouped, notifications are sent to the responsible teams, and the status of problem resolutions is tracked. It supports integration with Grafana, Prometheus, AlertManager, and Zabbix monitoring systems. The information received from the monitoring systems filters out secondary and insignificant events, aggregates duplicates, and excludes issues that can be resolved without human intervention. <\/p>\n

The significant events, cleansed of unnecessary informational noise, enter the notification dispatch subsystem, which identifies employees responsible for resolving the identified categories of problems and sends notifications considering their work schedule and workload (data from the schedule planner is assessed). Incident assignment rotation among different employees is supported, as well as the escalation of particularly important or unresolved issues to other team members or higher-level staff.

Depending on the severity of the incident, notifications can be sent via phone calls, SMS, email, creation of events in the schedule planner, and messaging apps like Slack and Telegram. In Slack, channels can be automatically created for discussing issues related to incident resolution, automatically connecting both individual employees and entire teams. <\/p>\n

The system offers flexible expansion and customization options (for example, event grouping and routing can be configured according to your preferences, and you can define rules and notification delivery channels). An API and Terraform support are provided for integration with external systems. Management is conducted through a web interface.
