The release of the Exim mail server 4.96 has taken place, incorporating accumulated fixes and new features. According to the automated survey conducted in May involving about 800 thousand mail servers, Exim holds a 59.59% share (up from 59.15% last year), Postfix is used on 33.64% (down from 33.76%), Sendmail at 3.55% (remains the same), MailEnable at 1.93% (down from 2.02%), MDaemon at 0.45% (down from 0.56%), and Microsoft Exchange at 0.23% (down from 0.30%). <\/p>\n

A new condition 'seen' has been implemented in ACL, which can be used to check previously occurring events related to users and hosts. This new condition simplifies working with grey lists. For instance, to create a basic grey list that allows for reconnection attempts, ACL 'seen = -5m \/ key=${sender_host_address}_$local_part@$domain' can be used.\n
A 'mask_n' has been added, a variant of the 'mask' operator, manipulating normalized IPv6 addresses (using colons and without packing).\n
The utilities exim_dumpdb and exim_fixdb have been updated with the option '-z' to return time without considering the timezone (UTC);\n
An event has been implemented in the background process that is output during a TLS connection failure.\n
The ACL debug mode ('control = debug') has been enhanced with the options 'stop', 'pretrigger', and 'trigger' for managing output to the debug log.\n
A check for special character escaping in lookup queries has been added, especially if the query string includes externally obtained data ('tainted'). If characters are not escaped, the issue will currently only be logged, but future releases will result in an error.\n
The option 'allow_insecure_tainted_data' has been removed, which allowed for suppressing error output for unsafe escaping of special characters in data. Support for log_selector 'taint', which enabled suppressing log warnings about escaping issues, has also been discontinued. <\/ul>\n
