As part of the xfwm4-wayland project, an independent enthusiast is developing a version of the xfwm4 window manager, adapted for use with the Wayland protocol and transitioned to the Meson build system. Support for Wayland in xfwm4-wayland is provided through integration with the wlroots library, developed by the Sway desktop environment's developers, offering core functionalities to run a composite manager based on Wayland. Xfwm4 is used in the Xfce desktop environment for displaying, decorating, and transforming windows. <\/p>\n

The developer has yet to decide whether to develop the port independently or as part of Xfce. Unlike the wlroots-based port, the libmutter-based solution will require the integration of the xfce4-panel and xfdesktop components into the composite server.
