The Debian project, the non-profit organization SPI (Software in the Public Interest), and the organization Debian.ch, which represents Debian's interests in Switzerland, won a dispute at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) related to the domain debian.community, which hosted a blog criticizing the project and its members, as well as publishing confidential discussions from the debian-private mailing list. <\/p>\n

Unlike the unsuccessful similar dispute initiated by Red Hat regarding the domain WeMakeFedora.org, the claims associated with debian.community were deemed valid, and a decision was made to transfer the rights to the domain debian.community to the Debian project. The formal reason for the domain transfer cited trademark infringement of Debian. The author of the debian.community site announced that he has registered a new site — «suicide.fyi», where he will continue to publish criticism of Debian. <\/p>\n

The domains debian.community and WeMakeFedora.org were used by Daniel Pocock to publish criticism regarding participants in the Debian, Fedora, and Red Hat projects. Such criticism caused dissatisfaction among members, as it was perceived by some as personal attacks. Daniel Pocock was previously among the developers of Fedora and Debian and was involved in the maintenance of several packages, but due to a conflict, he became confrontational with the community, began trolling some members, and published criticism mainly directed against the enforcement of a code of conduct, interference in community life, and the promotion of various initiatives conducted by social justice activists. <\/p>\n

For example, Daniel tried to draw attention to the activities of Molly de Blanc, who, in his opinion, under the guise of promoting a code of conduct, engaged in harassment of those who disagreed with her views and attempted to manipulate the behavior of community members (Molly is the author of an open letter against Stallman). Due to his caustic remarks, Daniel Pocock has been banned from discussion forums or excluded from participation in projects such as Debian, Fedora, FSF Europe, Alpine Linux, and FOSDEM, but continued his attacks on his websites.
