The release of the Toybox system utility set 0.8.8 has been published, similar to BusyBox, presented as a single executable file and optimized for minimal system resource consumption. The project is developed by a former BusyBox maintainer and is distributed under the 0BSD license. The main purpose of Toybox is to provide manufacturers with the opportunity to use a minimalist set of standard utilities without disclosing the source codes of the modified components. Currently, Toybox's capabilities lag behind BusyBox, but 306 basic commands (227 fully and 79 partially) out of 378 planned have already been implemented. <\/p>\n

The utility 'timeout' has been updated with the '-i' option to terminate commands after a specified period of inactivity (output to standard stream resets the timer).\n
The utility 'tar' now supports the '--xform' option for transforming file names using a specified sed expression. The command 'tar --null' has been implemented.\n
Shortened alternatives have been proposed for long options (for example, 'ls --col' for 'ls --color').\n
The 'blkid -o' command has been updated to support output formats 'full', 'value', and 'export'.\n
The utility 'nsenter' has added options '-C' (enable cgroup namespace) and '-a' (include all supported namespaces).\n
The 'mount' utility has implemented the '-R' option, and recursive bind mounting is enabled by default.\n
The 'file' utility now recognizes files with Linux kernel images and executable files for the Loongarch architecture. <\/ul>\n
