Peter Eckersley, one of the founders of the community-controlled nonprofit certificate authority Let's Encrypt, which provides free certificates to anyone who wishes, has passed away. Peter served on the board of the nonprofit organization ISRG (Internet Security Research Group), which is the founding entity of the Let's Encrypt project, and worked for a long time at the civil rights organization EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation). The idea promoted by Peter to ensure encryption across the entire internet by providing free certificates to all websites seemed unfeasible to many, but the created project Let's Encrypt proved otherwise. <\/p>\n
