An update for the Yuzu project has been released, featuring an emulator for the Nintendo Switch console, capable of running commercial games designed for this platform. The project is based on developers from Citra, the emulator for the Nintendo 3DS. Development is being carried out through reverse engineering of Nintendo Switch hardware and firmware. The Yuzu code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Ready builds are available for Linux (flatpak) and Windows. <\/p>\n

Of the 2699 tested games in the emulator, 644 showed perfect support (everything works as intended), 813 have good support (there may be some minor sound and graphics issues), 515 are acceptable (generally playable, but more noticeable sound or graphic problems may arise), 327 are poor (can be launched, but existing issues hinder full gameplay), 311 can only reach the splash\/menu screen, and 189 crash immediately after launch. <\/p>\n

Yuzu emulates only the hardware; a dump of the original firmware for the Nintendo Switch, game dumps from cartridges, and decryption keys for game files are also required. These can be obtained by booting the console in RCM mode with the external Hekate loader. For full emulation of the console, a CPU that supports SIMD FMA instructions with 6 or more cores\/threads is needed (the minimum recommended CPUs are Intel Core i5-4430 and AMD Ryzen 3 1200, while the recommended ones are Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600), 8 GB of RAM, and a graphics card that supports the OpenGL 4.6 or Vulkan 1.1 graphics API (at least an NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 2GB, AMD Radeon R7 240 2GB, Intel HD 5300 8GB, or AMD Radeon R5).
