The release of Wi-Fi Daemon IWD 2.0 (iNet Wireless Daemon) is now available, developed by Intel as an alternative to the wpa_supplicant tool for connecting Linux systems to wireless networks. IWD can be used independently or as a backend for network configurators Network Manager and ConnMan. The project is suitable for use on embedded devices and optimized for minimal memory and disk space consumption. IWD does not use external libraries and relies solely on the capabilities provided by the standard Linux kernel (only the Linux kernel and Glibc are required to operate). It includes its own implementation of a DHCP client and a set of cryptographic functions. The project code is written in C and is distributed under the LGPLv2.1 license. <\/p>\n
The new release introduces the following innovations: <\/p>\n

Support for configuring addresses, gateways, and routes for IPv4 and IPv6 networks (handled by iwd without the use of additional utilities) has been added.\n
The ability to change the MAC address at startup has been provided.\n
A list of access points that can be used for roaming has been implemented (previously, a single access point with the best performance was chosen for roaming, but now a list ranked by BSS is maintained for quick selection of backup access points in case of a failure when connecting to the chosen one).\n
Caching and resuming TLS sessions for EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) has been implemented.\n
Support for ciphers with 256-bit keys has been added.\n
In the access point mode implementation, support for client authentication using the outdated TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) has been added. This change allows support for older equipment that does not support any ciphers other than TKIP. <\/ul>\n
