The release of the Chrome OS 108 operating system has been made available, based on the Linux kernel, featuring the upstart system manager, ebuild\/portage build tools, open components, and Chrome 108 web browser. The user environment of Chrome OS is limited to the web browser, utilizing web applications instead of standard programs; however, Chrome OS includes a complete multi-window interface, desktop, and taskbar. The source code is distributed under the Apache 2.0 free license. The Chrome OS 108 build is available for most current models of Chromebooks. For use on regular computers, Chrome OS Flex edition is provided. <\/p>\n

In the handwriting notes application (Cursive), canvas locking has been implemented to prevent accidental scaling and panning.\n
The Screencast application (which allows recording and viewing videos reflecting screen content) has added support for multiple accounts, enabling the viewing of screencasts associated with another account. For example, a child can add a school account to their family profile (Family Link) and view screencasts created by the teacher.\n
The capability to roll back updates to previous versions has been added (any of the last three versions of Chrome OS can be downloaded and installed on the device).\n
Improvements have been made in the camera app for document scanning, adding support for scanning multiple pages and saving them as a multi-page PDF file.\n
The interface for connecting to a wireless network with a Captive Portal has been enhanced: messages regarding the need to log in are more informative, landing pages for login are easier to identify, and connection reliability for authorization pages has been improved.\n
On devices with a touchscreen, navigation on the virtual keyboard has been simplified. Touching the top panel allows for language switching, access to the emoji library, and activation of handwriting input. Adjustments have been made for fast input.\n
The file manager now supports a trash bin. Files deleted from the My files section no longer disappear without a trace but instead reside in the trash, from which they can be restored within 30 days.\n
Support has been added for a presence sensor, which is utilized for automatically locking the screen when the user steps away and providing a warning that an unauthorized person is looking at the screen. The presence sensor is included in Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebook devices. <\/ul>\n
