Red Hat has released a stable version of the Cygwin 3.4.0 package, which includes a DLL library for emulating the basic Linux API in Windows, allowing Linux programs to be compiled with minimal changes. The package also includes standard Unix utilities, server applications, compilers, libraries, and header files built to run in Windows. <\/p>\n
This release is notable for dropping support for 32-bit installations and the WoW64 layer used to run 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows. Support has also been discontinued for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. In the next branch (3.5), support for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012 is planned to be dropped. Thus, Cygwin 3.5.0 will support only Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022. <\/p>\n

Specifying an empty path in the PATH environment variable is now interpreted as referencing the current directory, which corresponds to behavior in Linux.\n
