The developers of the gccrs project (GCC Rust) have released the fourth edition of patches implementing the frontend of the Rust language compiler for GCC. It is noted that this new edition has addressed almost all the comments previously made during the review of the proposed code, and the patches meet all technical requirements for code added to GCC. Richard Biener, one of the GCC maintainers, mentioned that the frontend code for the Rust language is now ready for integration into the GCC 13 branch, which is set to be released in May 2023. <\/p>\n
Thus, starting with GCC 13, the default GCC toolchain will be able to compile programs in Rust without the need to install the rustc compiler built using LLVM. However, the implementation of Rust in GCC 13 will be in beta status and not enabled by default. In its current form, the frontend is suitable only for experimentation and requires further development that is planned for the coming months after the initial integration into GCC.
