After a year of development, GStreamer 1.22 has been released, a cross-platform set of components for creating a wide range of multimedia applications, from media players and audio\/video file converters to VoIP applications and streaming systems. The GStreamer code is distributed under the LGPLv2.1 license. Updates for the gst-plugins-base, gst-plugins-good, gst-plugins-bad, gst-plugins-ugly plugins, as well as the gst-libav wrapper and the gst-rtsp-server streaming server are developed separately. At the API and ABI level, the new release is backward compatible with the 1.0 branch. Binary builds will soon be prepared for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows (for Linux, it is recommended to use packages from the distribution). <\/p>\n
Key improvements in GStreamer 1.22: <\/p>\n

Improved support for the AV1 video encoding format. Added support for hardware acceleration for AV1 encoding and decoding through the VAAPI\/VA, AMF, D3D11, NVCODEC, QSV, and Intel MediaSDK APIs. New RTP handlers for AV1 have been added. AV1 parsing in MP4, Matroska, and WebM containers has been enhanced. The builds include elements with AV1 encoders and decoders based on the dav1d and rav1e libraries.\n
Support for Qt6 has been implemented. A qml6glsink element has been added, utilizing Qt6 for video rendering within the QML scene.\n
New gtk4paintablesink and gtkwaylandsink elements have been added for rendering using GTK4 and Wayland.\n
New clients for adaptive streaming supporting HLS, DASH, and MSS (Microsoft Smooth Streaming) protocols have been introduced.\n
The ability to create slimmed-down builds optimized for reduced size has been provided.\n
Support for WebRTC simulcast and Google Congestion Control has been added.\n
A simple and self-contained plugin for sending via WebRTC has been provided.\n
A new MP4 media container packager supporting fragmented and non-fragmented data has been added.\n
New plugins for Amazon AWS storage and audio transcription services have been introduced.\n
Bindings for the Rust language have been updated. 19 new plugins, effects, and elements written in Rust (gst-plugins-rs) have been added. It is noted that 33% of the changes in the new GStreamer have been realized in Rust (these changes concern bindings and plugins), and the gst-plugins-rs plugin set is one of the most actively developed modules in GStreamer. Plugins written in Rust can be used in programs in any language, and working with them is similar to using plugins in C and C++.\n
The supply of Rust plugins is ensured as part of the official binary packages for Windows and macOS platforms (build and supply are supported for Linux, Windows, and macOS).\n
A Rust-based media server has been implemented on the WebRTC platform, supporting WHIP (WebRTC HTTP ingest) and WHEP (WebRTC HTTP egress).\n
The videocolorscale element has been added, combining features for video conversion and scaling.\n
Improved support for high color depth video.\n
Support for touch screen events has been added to the Navigation API.\n
H.264\/H.265 timestamp correction elements have been added for reconstructing PTS\/DTS before packaging media containers.\n
On the Linux platform, the use of DMA for working with buffers during video encoding, decoding, filtering, and rendering with hardware acceleration has been improved.\n
CUDA integration has been enhanced: the gst-cuda library and cudaconvertscale element have been added, along with integration with D3D11 elements and NVIDIA dGPU NVMM.\n
Direct3D11 integration has been improved: a new gst-d3d11 library has been added, expanding the capabilities of the d3d11screencapture, d3d11videosink, d3d11convert, and d3d11compositor plugins.\n
New hardware-accelerated video encoders for AMD GPUs have been implemented in H.264\/AVC, H.265\/HEVC, and AV1 formats, built using the AMF (Advanced Media Framework) SDK.\n
Support for encoding and decoding H.265\/HEVC video has been added to the applemedia plugin.\n
Support for encoding H.265\/HEVC video has been added to the androidmedia plugin.\n
The audiomixer, compositor, glvideomixer, and d3d11compositor plugins have been added with a force-live property to enforce the live mode. <\/ul>\n
