The VPN provider NordVPN announced the opening of the source codes for the Linux client, the network library Libtelio, and the library for file sharing Libdrop. The code is released under the GPLv3 license. The development utilized programming languages such as Go, Rust, C, and Python. <\/p>\n

The Linux client provides a command-line interface for managing connections to NordVPN servers, allows you to select a server from a list based on the desired location, modify protocol settings, and enable the Kill Switch mode, which blocks network access in case of a disconnection from the VPN<\/a>-server. The client supports operation using NordLynx protocols (based on WireGuard) and OpenVPN. To change firewall settings, iptables is used, for routing iproute, for tunneling connections tuntap, and for name resolution in DNS \u2014 systemd-resolved. It supports operation in distributions Ubuntu, Fedora, Manjaro, Debian, Arch, Kali, CentOS, and Raspbian. <\/p>\n

The Libtelio library includes standard networking functions and provides an implementation of the MeshNet virtual network, formed from user systems for communication between them. MeshNet allows establishing encrypted tunnels between devices and creating a semblance of a separate local network based on them. Unlike a VPN, connections in MeshNet are established not between a device and a VPN server, but between end devices that also act as nodes for routing traffic. <\/p>\n

For the entire MeshNet network, a common server can be defined for interaction with the outside world (for example, if the outgoing node is located at the user's home, then regardless of where the user connects to the network with devices connected to MeshNet, the network activity will appear to external services as if the user were connecting from home. an IP address<\/a>). <\/p>\n

Various implementations of WireGuard can be used for traffic encryption in MeshNet. Both VPN servers and user nodes within MeshNet can serve as exit nodes. A configurable packet filter is provided to limit traffic within the network, and a DNS-based service is used for host resolution. The published library enables the organization of custom MeshNet networks within your applications. <\/p>\n

The Libdrop library provides functions for secure file exchange between user devices. Direct file sending and receiving over MeshNet or the global network is supported, without involving third-party servers.
