The release of the fully free Linux distribution Trisquel 11.0 has been published, based on the package base of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and aimed at use in small businesses, educational institutions, and by home users. Trisquel is personally endorsed by Richard Stallman and is officially recognized by the Free Software Foundation as fully free, appearing on the Foundation's list of recommended distributions. Installation images are available for download, sized at 2.2 GB and 1.2 GB (x86_64, armhf, arm64, ppc64el). Updates for the distribution will be provided until April 2027. <\/p>\n
The distribution is notable for excluding all non-free components, such as binary drivers, firmware, and graphical elements distributed under non-free licenses or using registered trademarks. Despite the complete absence of proprietary components, Trisquel is compatible with Java (OpenJDK) and supports most audio and video formats, including working with protected DVDs, all while employing only fully free implementations of these technologies. MATE (default), LXDE, and KDE are offered as desktop environments. <\/p>\n

The transition from the package base of Ubuntu 20.04 to the branch of Ubuntu 22.04 has been completed.\n
The free version of the Linux kernel has been fully updated to version 5.15 \u2014 Linux Libre, which is free of proprietary firmware and drivers containing non-free components.\n
The MATE desktop has been updated to version 1.26. Optionally available for installation are the user environments LXDE 0.10.1 and KDE Plasma 5.24.\n
Software versions have been updated, including Abrowser (renamed Firefox) 110, Icedove (Thunderbird) 102.8, LibreOffice 7.3.7, VLC 3.0.16.\n
Builds for systems with processors based on PowerPC 64 (ppc64el) and AArch64 (ARM64) architectures have begun. <\/ul>\n

Main requirements for fully free distributions: <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Inclusion of software with approved FSF licenses in the distribution; <\/li>\n
Prohibition on the delivery of binary firmware and any binary driver components; <\/li>\n
The rejection of immutable functional components, but the possibility of including non-functional ones, provided there is permission to copy and distribute them for commercial and non-commercial purposes (for example, CC BY-ND maps for a GPL game); <\/li>\n
The inadmissibility of using trademarks whose terms of use hinder free copying and distribution of the entire distribution or any of its parts; <\/li>\n
Compliance with the licensing purity of documentation, the inadmissibility of documentation that recommends the installation of proprietary software to solve specific tasks. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Dragora \u2014 an independent distribution promoting the idea of maximum architectural simplification; <\/li>\n
ProteanOS \u2014 a standalone distribution evolving towards achieving the most compact size; <\/li>\n
Dynebolic \u2014 a specialized distribution for processing video and audio data (no longer in development \u2014 the last release was on September 8, 2011); <\/li>\n
Hyperbola \u2014 based on stabilized snapshots of the Arch Linux package base with the transfer of some Debian patches for enhanced stability and security. The project evolves according to the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) and aims to provide users with a simple, lightweight, stable, and secure environment. <\/li>\n
Parabola GNU\/Linux \u2014 a distribution based on the developments of the Arch Linux project; <\/li>\n
PureOS \u2014 based on the Debian package base and developed by Purism, which is advancing the Librem 5 smartphone and releasing laptops supplied with this distribution and CoreBoot-based firmware; <\/li>\n
Trisquel \u2014 a distribution based on Ubuntu, specialized for small enterprises, home users, and educational institutions; <\/li>\n
Ututo \u2014 a GNU\/Linux distribution built on the Gentoo base. <\/li>\n
libreCMC (libre Concurrent Machine Cluster), a specialized distribution designed for use in embedded devices such as wireless routers. <\/li>\n
Guix \u2014 based on the Guix package manager and the GNU Shepherd initialization system (formerly known as GNU dmd), written in the Guile language (one implementation of the Scheme language), which is also used to define service launch parameters. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
