The Rust Foundation has published a feedback form for reviewing the new trademark policy related to the Rust language and the Cargo package manager. Once the survey concludes on April 16, the Rust Foundation will release the final version of the organization's new policy. <\/p>\n
The Rust Foundation oversees the Rust language ecosystem, supports the main maintainers involved in development and decision-making, and is responsible for organizing project funding. The Rust Foundation was established in 2021 through the efforts of AWS, Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, and Huawei as an independent non-profit organization. All trademarks and infrastructure assets of the Rust programming language, developed by Mozilla since 2015, have been transferred to the Rust Foundation. <\/p>\n
A brief overview of the new trademark policy: <\/p>\n

If there are doubts about compliance with the new policy, developers are advised to use the abbreviation RS instead of Rust to indicate that the project is based on Rust, is compatible with Rust, and relates to Rust. For example, crate packages are recommended to be named 'name-rs' instead of 'rust-name'.\n
Selling goods \u2014 the use of the name and logo of Rust for the sale or advertisement of goods for profit is prohibited without direct approval. For instance, selling stickers with the Rust logo for personal gain is not allowed.\n
Demonstrating support for the project \u2014 showing support on a personal website or blog using the name and logo of Rust is permitted only if all requirements specified in the new policy are met.\n
The name Rust is allowed to be used in the titles of articles, books, and educational materials, with a clear indication that the Rust project and the Rust Foundation are not involved in the creation and review of the content.\n
The use of the Rust name and logo is prohibited as personalization in corporate social media.\n
The use of the Rust logo is prohibited if it involves any modification of the logo itself aside from 'scaling'; in the future, the organization will independently publish new versions of the logo considering current social movements (such as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, Black Lives Matter, etc.).\n
'Ferris' (the crab, project mascot) does not belong to the organization, and the organization has no right to restrict the use of this trademark.\n
At conferences and events related to the Rust programming language and other products of the organization, carrying firearms must be prohibited, local sanitary regulations should be considered, and clear behavioral norms (robust CoC) should be employed. <\/ul>\n
