In the nightly builds of Firefox, which will serve as the basis for the release of Firefox 114 on June 6, a setting has been introduced for the automatic closure of pop-up dialogs shown on websites to obtain confirmation for the ability to store identifiers in cookies in accordance with GDPR requirements. Since such pop-up banners distract attention, obscure content, and require user time to close, Firefox developers decided to embed the capability for automatic rejection of requests into the browser. <\/p>\n
To enable the automatic response function to requests, a new section titled 'Cookie Banner Reduction' has appeared in the settings under Security and Privacy (about:preferences#privacy). Currently, this section only contains the flag 'Reduce Cookie Banners', which, when selected, will prompt Firefox to decline requests to store identifiers in cookies for a predetermined list of websites on behalf of the user. <\/p>\n
For more granular control, there are parameters 'cookiebanners.service.mode' and 'cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsing' in about:config, with setting 0 disabling automatic closure of cookie banners; 1 \u2014 always declines permission requests and ignores banners that allow only consent; 2 \u2014 declines permission requests whenever possible, and if not possible, consents to cookie storage. Unlike a similar mode provided in the Brave browser and ad blockers, Firefox does not hide the block but automates the user's actions with it.
