The release of the browser extension Linguist 5.0 has taken place, offering full-fledged translation of pages, highlighted, and manually entered text. The extension also includes a bookmark dictionary and extensive configuration options, including the ability to add custom translation modules in the settings page. The code is distributed under the BSD license. It supports operation in browsers based on the Chromium engine, Firefox, and Firefox for Android. <\/p>\n
Key changes in the new version: <\/p>\n

Comprehensive offline translation has been implemented. The new built-in translation module integrates the Bergamot Translator and allows users to utilize all features of Linguist fully autonomously, without sending texts online. An internet connection is only needed for the one-time download of models for each translation direction; after that, no connection is required. The current list of languages supported by Bergamot (this list will be expanded in new patches) includes English, Bulgarian, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Czech, and Estonian.\n
API bindings for the TartuNLP project (a machine translation project from Tartu University), LibreTranslate (a self-hosted machine translation project), and Lingva Translate (a backend proxying Google Translator API) have been added to the public list of custom translation modules. A module for ChatGPT is in the works.\n
Support for custom text-to-speech modules has been implemented.\n
A tab for translation history has been added, allowing users to search for recently translated texts.\n
The interface of the extension has been translated into 41 languages.\n
The Bing Translator has been removed from the list of built-in modules due to unstable quality.\n
Improvements have been made to the user interface, and support for hotkeys for page translation has been implemented.\n
The auto-detection of language on pages in Hebrew has been fixed.\n
A problem has been resolved where texts were deleted in all page elements during quick toggling of the translation state. <\/ul>\n
