Valve has released an update for Proton 8.0-2, which is based on the Wine project codebase and aimed at enabling the launch of Windows games on Linux that are available in the Steam catalog. The project's developments are distributed under the BSD license. <\/p>\n

Proton allows you to run gaming applications available only for Windows directly in the Steam Linux client. The package includes implementations of DirectX 9\/10\/11 (based on the DXVK package) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), which work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API. It provides improved game controller support and the ability to use fullscreen mode regardless of the screen resolutions supported by the games. To enhance the performance of multi-threaded games, it supports the mechanisms of 'esync' (Eventfd Synchronization) and 'futex\/fsync'. <\/p>\n

The new version fixes issues in games like Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity: Original Sin: Enhanced Edition, Divinity Original Sin II: Definitive Edition, Path of Exile, Elden Ring, and Red Dead Redemption 2. A memory leak occurring when launching Trackmania and Ubisoft Connect has been resolved. The problem with EA Launcher crashing has also been addressed.
