The developers of the Thunderbird email client have published their financial report for 2022. Over the year, the project received donations totaling $6.4 million (compared to $1.5 million in 2019, $2.3 million in 2020, and $2.8 million in 2021), which allows it to continue developing independently and successfully.

The project's expenses amounted to $3.569 million (with $1.5 million in 2020 and $1.984 million in 2021), and nearly all (79.8%) were related to staff compensation. Currently, there are 24 employees working on the project (up from 15 in 2020 and 20 in 2021). 6.9% was spent on administration, and 0.3% on marketing. Other expenses were related to professional services (such as HR), tax management, and agreements with Mozilla (including payment for access to the build infrastructure). <\/p>\n
According to available statistics, there are approximately 8-9 million active Thunderbird users daily, and 17 million active users monthly (the numbers were roughly the same a year ago). 95% of users utilize Thunderbird on the Windows platform, 4% on macOS, and 1% on Linux. <\/p>\n
