The release of the D8VK 1.0 project offers an implementation of the Direct3D 8 graphics API, working through the translation of calls to the Vulkan API, and allows the launch of Windows-developed 3D applications and games tied to the Direct3D 8 API on Linux using Wine or Proton. The project's code is written in C++ and is distributed under the Zlib license. The development is based on the DXVK codebase, which implements Direct3D 9, 10, and 11 over Vulkan. <\/p>\n

D8VK 1.0 is noted as the first release of the project suitable for widespread use, tested on hundreds of games. Compared to the WineD3D and d3d8to9 projects, which utilize translation from Direct3D 8 to OpenGL and Direct3D 9, the D8VK project demonstrates higher performance, stability, and compatibility with games. For instance, during testing in the 3DMark 2001 SE package, the D8VK project scored 144660 points, while the combination of d3d8to9 and dxvk scored 118033, and WineD3D scored 97134.
