A new version of the Util-linux system utility package 2.39 has been released, which includes both utilities closely related to the Linux kernel and general-purpose utilities. For example, the package features utilities such as mount\/umount, fdisk, hwclock, cal, blkid, fsck\/cfdisk\/sfdisk, blockdev, chrt, mkfs, ionice, more, renice, su, kill, setsid, login, shutdown, dmesg, lscpu, logger, losetup, setterm, mkswap, swapon, taskset, etc. <\/p>\n

The mount utility and the libmount library have been updated to support a new Linux kernel API for managing the mounting of file systems using mount namespaces. In the new API, separate functions are used to handle different stages of mounting (process the superblock, get filesystem information, mount, attach to the mount point), instead of a common mount() function. Compatibility with older Linux kernels and the old mounting API is preserved. An option \u2018--disable-libmount-mountfd-support\u2019 has been added to forcibly disable the new API.\n
The use of the new mounting API has enabled support for mapping user IDs of mounted file systems, which is used to match files of a specific user on a mounted foreign partition with another user in the current system. An option \u2018X-mount.idmap=\u2019 has been added to the mount utility for managing this mapping.\n
The mount utility has new options: \u2018X-mount.auto-fstypes\u2019 for automatic detection of a certain type of file system, \u2018X-mount.{owner,group,mode}\u2019 for changing the owner, group, and access mode after mounting, and \u2018rootcontext=@target\u2019 for setting the SELinux context for the filesystem. Support for the \u2018recursive\u2019 argument has been added for VFS flags (e.g., \u2018mount -o bind,ro=recursive\u2019).\n
The blkpr command has been added, allowing the reservation of blocks on SCSI or NVMe storage devices.\n
The pipesz command has been added for setting or checking the buffer size for unnamed pipes and FIFOs.\n
The waitpid command has been added for waiting for a change in the state of an arbitrary process (e.g., its termination).\n
The renice utility has added options \u2018-n\u2019 and \u2018--relative\u2019.\n
Support for the ioctl BLKGETDISKSEQ has been implemented in the blockdev utility.\n
The lsfd utility now supports pidfd and sockets AF_NETLINK, AF_PACKET, AF_INET, and AF_INET6 (\/proc\/net\/*), allows displaying renamed process names from proc\/$pid\/fd, implements decoding of flags from \/proc\/$PID\/fdinfo\/$fd, and has added the option \u2018-i\u2019 (\u2018--inet\u2019) to show only information about AF_INET and AF_INET6 sockets.\n
The cal utility now supports configuring colored output via terminal-colors.d.\n
In dmesg, output with precision down to fractions of a second has been implemented using the options \u2018--since\u2019 and \u2018--until\u2019; the option \u2018--level\u2019 now allows specifying a prefix\/suffix \u2018+\u2019 to show all levels with numbers greater\/less than a given value.\n
The fstrim utility has added the option \u2018--types\u2019 for filtering by file system type.\n
blkid and libblkid now support the bcachefs filesystem and include checksum calculations for filesystems and RAID.\n
The lsblk utility has added the options \u2018--nvme\u2019 and \u2018--virtio\u2019 to filter devices, and now includes columns ID (udev ID), ID-LINK (udev \/dev\/disk\/by-id), PARTN (partition number), and MQ (queues), with improved support for hot-plugging and unplugging devices.\n
The nsenter command now includes the «—env» option for passing environment variables.\n
The namei command now features the «-Z» option to display SELinux contexts.\n
Support for the Meson build system has been improved. <\/ul>\n
