On October 2, 2023, a new stable version of the popular programming language Python 3.12 was released.<\/p>\n
Python is a high-level general-purpose programming language with dynamic strict typing and automatic memory management, aimed at enhancing developer productivity, code readability, and quality, as well as ensuring the portability of programs written in it.<\/p>\n
The latest stable version of Python 3.12 offers numerous changes in the language and standard library. The changes in the library are aimed at cleaning up deprecated APIs, improving usability, and more. Notably, the distutils package has been removed from the standard library (setuptools should be used instead). Support for the file system in os and pathlib has seen several enhancements, and some modules now perform better.<\/p>\n
Among the many changes and improvements, the following stand out: <\/p>\n

More flexible parsing of formatted f-strings, allowing many things that were previously not possible (PEP 701). <\/li>\n
Improved syntax for specifying type parameters when declaring a generic class, function, or type alias (PEP 695). <\/li>\n
New API for profilers, debuggers, and other tools for monitoring events in CPython (PEP 669). <\/li>\n
Support for isolated subinterpreters with separate global interpreter locks (GIL) (PEP 684). Programs written using subinterpreters can take advantage of multicore parallelism, which was previously not possible due to GIL. <\/li>\n
Enhanced error messages. In case of errors caused by potential typos, correction suggestions are provided. <\/li>\n
Support for the Linux perf profiler to pass Python function names to the tracer. <\/li>\n
Numerous major and minor performance improvements (for example, see PEP 709, which discusses improvements in list comprehension performance, support for binary optimizer BOLT, etc.), providing an overall performance increase of about 5%.
