The vulnerability affects both physical and virtual devices running Cisco IOS XE that also have the HTTP(S) server feature enabled. It has been given a maximum severity rating of 10 out of 10 on the CVSS scale. A patch to address this vulnerability is not yet available. This vulnerability allows an attacker, without authentication, to create an account with the highest privilege level (15) on an internet-connected device, giving them full control over the compromised system. The company stated that it traced how an attacker exploited the vulnerability to gain administrator-level privileges on devices running IOS XE, and then, bypassing patches, used an older remote code
