Developers from Mozilla have announced their decision to stop using the Mercurial version control system for Firefox development in favor of Git. Until now, the project allowed developers to choose between Mercurial and Git, but Mercurial was mainly used in the core repository. Due to the heavy load caused by supporting both systems, it has been decided to focus solely on Git for development in the future. Mozilla will continue to use services like Bugzilla, moz-phab, Phabricator, and Lando. <\/p>\n
The migration to Git is expected to take at least 6 months. The transition will occur in two phases: <\/p>\n

In the first phase, the project's main repository will be switched from Mercurial to Git, and support for Mercurial on developers' machines will be removed. During this phase, Git will be used locally on developers' systems, and the existing moz-phab will continue to be used for submitting patches for review. All changes will initially be placed in the Git repository before being moved into the existing Mercurial infrastructure.\n
In the second phase, Mercurial will be gradually replaced by Git in the project's infrastructure, step by step. Once the migration is complete, support for Mercurial will be removed. <\/ul>\n
