Installation builds have been prepared for architectures x86_64, s390x (IBM System z), ppc64le, and Aarch64, but are only available for download to registered users of the Red Hat Customer Portal (CentOS Stream 9 ISO images and free RHEL developer builds can also be used).      <\/p>\n<p>As with the RHEL 9 branch, the source texts of RHEL 8 RPM packages are no longer publicly distributed through the CentOS Git repository but remain accessible to clients via a restricted section of the site, governed by a user agreement (EULA) that prohibits redistribution of the data. The source texts can be found in the CentOS Stream repository, but it is not fully synchronized with RHEL, and the latest versions of the packages do not always match those from RHEL. Rocky Linux, Oracle, and SUSE have joined forces and now reproduce the source texts of RHEL RPM packages under the OpenELA project. AlmaLinux has transitioned to using the CentOS Stream repository and accommodates minor discrepancies in behavior (which may differ at the individual patch level) while maintaining binary compatibility at the ABI level.       <\/p>\n<p>The preparation of new releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x is carried out according to a development cycle, which implies the formation of releases every six months at predetermined times. Until 2024, the 8.x branch will be in full support, which includes functional enhancements, after which it will move to a maintenance stage where priorities will shift towards bug fixes and security, with only minor enhancements for important hardware systems.       <\/p>\n<p>Key changes:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> New versions of compilers and development tools have been included: GCC Toolset 13, LLVM Toolset 16.0.6, Rust Toolset 1.71.1, Go Toolset 1.20.10, Node.js 20, Valgrind 3.21, SystemTap 4.9, elfutils 0.189, java-21-openjdk (java-17-openjdk, java-11-openjdk, and java-1.8.0-openjdk are also still supplied).\n<li class=\"l\"> Server and system packages have been updated: samba 4.18.4, 389-ds-base 1.4.3.35, OpenSCAP 1.3.8, Grafana 9.2.10, opencryptoki 3.21.0, iproute 6.2.0, libnftnl 1.2.2, makedumpfile 1.7.2, Podman 4.6.\n<li class=\"l\"> AMI images for AWS EC2 cloud environments now include support for booting in UEFI mode.\n<li class=\"l\"> A parameter \"inst.wait_for_disks\" has been added to installation builds, which sets the wait time for the kickstart file to load or for drivers to be ready during boot.\n<li class=\"l\"> New options \"--ipv4-dns-search\" and \"--ipv6-dns-search\" have been added to the network command in kickstart files for specifying the base <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/en\/domain\/\"   title=\"domains\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3176\">domains<\/a> for the directive \"search\" in \/etc\/resolv.conf, as well as the options \"--ipv4-ignore-auto-dns\" and \"--ipv6-ignore-auto-dns\" to ignore obtaining DNS settings via DHCP.\n<li class=\"l\"> The fapolicyd service now includes rule numbers for denied API fanotify requests to simplify debugging issues.\n<li class=\"l\"> The security profiles ANSSI-BP-028 (French National Agency for the Security of Information Systems) have been updated to version 2.0.\n<li class=\"l\"> The auditing tools now support FANOTIFY events and have implemented logging of fields fan_type (event type), fan_info (related information), sub_trust, and obj_trust (trust levels for the subject and object of the event).\n<li class=\"l\"> Postfix now supports checking SRV DNS records to determine the host and port for email delivery <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/en\/server\/dts-los-angeles\/\"   title=\"server\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3824\">server<\/a>, which will be used for message transmission. This feature can be utilized in infrastructures where email delivery uses services with dynamically assigned network port numbers.\n<li class=\"l\"> The vsftpd FTP server has implemented support for TLS 1.3.\n<li class=\"l\"> The cups-filters package has added a LF-to-CRLF driver, which can be used to convert the character \"\\n\" (line feed) to \"\\r\\n\" (carriage return and line feed) for printers that only support processing files with line endings \"\\r\\n\".\n<li class=\"l\"> The default security settings for the nftables service have been strengthened. The set of rules \/etc\/sysconfig\/nftables\/nat.nft now includes a new chain do_masquerade, which checks the randomness of source port numbers to reduce the risk of Port Shadows attacks (CVE-2021-3773).\n<li class=\"l\"> NetworkManager now supports the \"no-aaaa\" option in resolv.conf, which disables the sending of DNS queries for AAAA records (IPv6 address resolution by hostname). The nm-cloud-setup utility has been enhanced to configure AWS Red Hat Enterprise Linux EC2 using IMDSv2 (Instance Metadata Service Version 2) tokens.\n<li class=\"l\"> To protect against Spectre v2 attacks related to speculative instruction execution, the AutoIBRS (Automatic Indirect Branch Restricted Speculation) mode has been added, supported by AMD CPUs starting from the EPYC 9004 Genoa family.\n<li class=\"l\"> The Intel QAT driver with support for Intel Quick Assist Technology 401xx\/402xx has been moved from the Linux 6.2 kernel.\n<li class=\"l\"> The ability to specify a UUID when creating GFS2 filesystems has been added (the command \"-U\" has been added to the mkfs.gfs2 utility).\n<li class=\"l\"> FUSE3 has added the capability to revoke a directory entry without automatically unmounting the mount points associated with that entry.\n<li class=\"l\"> Expanded capabilities for clusters and fault-tolerant systems: Support for policy routing has been added to the cluster resource agents IPaddr2 and IPsrcaddr. The agent ocf:heartbeat:Filesystem now supports the EFS filesystem (Amazon Elastic File System). Support for SNMPv3 protocol has been added to the alert_snmp.sh.sample agent.\n<li class=\"l\"> Changes have been made to Glibc with optimizations to improve performance on systems with Intel Xeon v5 CPUs.\n<li class=\"l\"> Complete support for Intel Arc A-Series (Alchemist or DG2) discrete graphics cards has been provided.\n<li class=\"l\"> A system role has been added for managing systemd units and their installation. A system role has been added for installing, configuring, managing, and running the PostgreSQL DBMS. A system role for the keylime toolset has been added, simplifying the configuration of the Keylime registrar and verifier used for authenticating and continuously monitoring the integrity of an external system. The system role for the firewall has been enhanced to support the definition, modification, and deletion of ipsets. System roles for Podman, Kdump, Storage, and Microsoft SQL Server have been expanded.\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for key files used in NetworkManager has been added to cloud-init.\n<li class=\"l\"> Podman now supports containers compressed using the zstd algorithm. The ability to use Quadlets for automatically generating systemd services from container descriptions has been added. A shell called podmansh has been introduced, which can be used instead of \/usr\/bin\/bash to start a user session within a container. Versions of Podman, Buildah, Skopeo, crun, and runc have been updated.\n<li class=\"l\"> New kernel command line parameters have been added: gather_data_sampling to manage the protection mode against GDS attacks (Gather Data Sampling or Downfall) and rdrand to hide support for the RDRAND instruction.\n<li class=\"l\"> Hardware support has been expanded. Drivers for Thunderbolt\/USB4 network devices (thunderbolt_net) and Broadcom 802.11 wireless adapters (brcmfmac) have been added for ARM64 systems. Drivers for MediaTek Bluetooth devices, Microsoft Azure Network Adapter IB (mana_ib), Linux USB Video Class driver (uvc), AMD SoundWire (soundwire-amd), DisplayPort Alternate Mode (typec_displayport), and Virtio-mem (virtio_mem) have also been added. Support for Intel processors based on the Meteor Lake microarchitecture has been improved.\n<li class=\"l\"> Support for clients in the cryptographic verification components of sigstore has been stabilized: Rekor (a log for storing metadata protected by digital signatures) and Fulcio (a root CA issuing short-lived certificates).\n<li class=\"l\"> The experimental (Technology Preview) support for AF_XDP, XDP hardware offloading, Multipath TCP (MPTCP), MPLS (Multi-protocol Label Switching), DSA (data streaming accelerator), dracut, kexec fast reboot, nispor, DAX in ext4 and xfs, systemd-resolved, accel-config, igc, OverlayFS, Stratis, Software Guard Extensions (SGX), NVMe\/TCP, DNSSEC, GNOME on ARM64 and IBM Z systems, AMD SEV for KVM, Intel vGPU, and Toolbox has been
