The release of Proxmox Virtual Environment 8.1 has been published, a specialized Linux distribution based on Debian GNU\/Linux, aimed at deploying and maintaining virtual servers using LXC and KVM, capable of replacing products like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Hypervisor. The size of the installation ISO image is 1.2 GB. <\/p>\n
Proxmox VE provides tools for deploying a fully functional industrial-grade virtual server system, managed through a web interface designed for handling hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines. The distribution includes built-in tools for organizing backups of virtual environments and offers out-of-the-box clustering support, including the ability to migrate virtual environments from one node to another without downtime. Features of the web interface include: support for secure VNC console; role-based access management to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.); and support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE authentication). <\/p>\n

A package for creating Software-Defined Networks (SDN) has been added to the basic package. In SDN, network management is separated from the data transfer layer and is configured via software. With SDN in Proxmox VE, you can create multi-user virtualized zones and networks (VNets), deployed at the data center level and managed directly through the Web interface. It supports creating both isolated virtual private networks for individual cluster nodes and complex overlay networks spanning multiple clusters.\n
Support for verified boot in UEFI Secure Boot mode has been added, ensuring that only verified components with correct digital signatures are used during boot. A shim boot loader, signed with a digital signature recognized by most hardware with UEFI, is provided for UEFI Secure Boot.\n
A flexible notification system has been proposed, supporting notification redirection based on specified matching rules, allowing for the selection of delivery methods depending on the type of event associated with the notification. Various delivery methods are supported, including the local mail server Postfix, external authenticated SMTP servers, and servers<\/a> message delivery via Gotify.\n
