After six months of development, the stable release of the composite server Weston 13.0 has been published, advancing technologies that enable full support for the Wayland protocol in Enlightenment, GNOME, KDE, and other user environments. The Weston project is focused on providing a high-quality codebase and working examples for using Wayland in desktop environments and embedded solutions, such as platforms for automotive infotainment systems, smartphones, televisions, and other consumer devices. The project code is distributed under the MIT license. <\/p>\n
The significant version change of Weston is due to the presence of changes that break compatibility. Changes in the new Weston branch: <\/p>\n

The ability to load multiple backends simultaneously has been added, allowing secondary backends like vnc, rdp, and pipewire to be loaded alongside the main output backend.\n
Support for rendering using OpenGL has been added to the backends backend-vnc, backend-pipewire, and backend-rdp.\n
Improvements have been made to the full-screen mode in the kiosk-shell for creating internet kiosks. Full-screen surfaces for applications launched via xwayland can now be created.\n
Support for overlapping output has been added, allowing elements to be placed on planes displayed on multiple output devices.\n
In the desktop-shell, the ability to limit the pointer's movement area (pointer confinement) on full-screen surfaces has been implemented.\n
Support for libgbm library versions prior to 21.1.1 has been discontinued in the drm-backend and various clients.\n
The function weston_view_move_to_layer() has been added for moving the visible area (view) to a specified layer or removing it from the scene graph if NULL is specified as the layer.\n
The functions weston_view_set_position, weston_touch, and weston_output, as well as the shell, have been transitioned to use the weston_coord structure.\n
The function weston_log_scopes_iterate() has been added for iterating over areas in the log.\n
The launcher-logind component has been removed; instead, launcher-libseat should be used, which also supports systemd-logind. <\/ul>\n
