Oracle has formed a new branch of the MySQL database management system, MySQL 8.3, and has released a corrective update, MySQL 8.0.36. Builds of MySQL Community Server 8.3.0 are prepared for all major Linux distributions, FreeBSD, macOS, and Windows. <\/p>\n
MySQL 8.3.0 is the third release formed under the new release model, which involves two types of MySQL branches \u2014 'Innovation' and 'LTS'. The Innovation branches, which include MySQL 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3, are recommended for those who want earlier access to new features. These branches are published every 3 months and are supported only until the next major release is published (for example, support for branch 8.2 ends after the release of branch 8.3). LTS branches are recommended for deployments requiring predictability and long-term maintenance of unchanged behavior. LTS branches will be released every two years and supported in the regular mode for 5 years, with an additional 3 years of extended support available. The LTS release of MySQL 8.4 is expected in spring 2024, after which a new Innovation branch 9.0 will be formed. <\/p>\n

25 vulnerabilities have been fixed, one of which (CVE-2023-5363, affecting OpenSSL) can be exploited remotely. The most serious issue related to the Kerberos protocol has been assigned a severity level of 8.8. Less severe vulnerabilities with a severity level of 6.5 affect the optimizer, UDF, DDL, DML, replication, privilege system, and encryption tools.\n
Support for the mold linker has been added on the Linux platform. The option '-DWITH_LD=mold|lld' is provided to enable this.\n
The requirements for the supported C++ standard have been raised from C++17 to C++20.\n
Support for building with external Boost C++ libraries has been discontinued \u2014 MySQL now uses only the built-in Boost libraries during compilation. The build options WITH_BOOST, DOWNLOAD_BOOST, and DOWNLOAD_BOOST_TIMEOUT have been removed from CMake.\n
Support for building in Visual Studio 2022 has been discontinued. The minimum supported version of the Clang toolchain has been raised from Clang 10 to Clang 12.\n
