On January 23, a message was posted on the GitHub page of the Open Broadcaster Software project announcing the conclusion of work on supporting AV1 video encoding using the Linux Video Acceleration API (VA-API). On May 2, 2023, a merge request was opened for the OBS FFmpeg code to add AV1 VA-API support, and as of the evening of January 23, this code was merged.<\/p>\n
The code was successfully tested for VA-API AV1 encoding using Mesa drivers, which are available for AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards and Intel Arc Graphics (specifically for graphics cards with open-source Mesa driver support). Unfortunately, merging this code took a significant amount of time; however, this feature will be included in the next OBS release.<\/p>\n
For reference: Open Broadcaster Software (commonly referred to as OBS) is a free and open-source program for video recording and live streaming, developed by the OBS project and a community of independent developers, and the project itself is written in C and C++.<\/p>\n
OBS allows for the real-time capture of video streams from devices and sources, scene composition, decoding, recording, and broadcasting. For example, OBS can be used with an IP camera for video surveillance. Data transmission primarily occurs via the Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP). <\/p>\n
