The developers of the Gentoo project have announced the launch of a separate repository with binary packages built with support for the third version of the x86-64 microarchitecture (x86-64-v3), used in Intel processors since around 2015 (starting with Intel Haswell). This version is distinguished by the presence of extensions such as AVX, AVX2, BMI2, FMA, LZCNT, MOVBE, and SXSAVE. The repository offers a separate set of packages being formed in parallel with the one published in December, in which the build is done for the base x86-64 architecture that can be used on any 64-bit Intel and AMD processors. <\/p>\n
The new repository enables higher performance on modern processors by utilizing extended instructions in programs.
