Implementing such primitives at the kernel level significantly increases the performance of Windows games running through Wine. For instance, using the ntsync driver, compared to the NT user-space synchronization primitives, the maximum FPS in the game Dirt 3 increased by 678%, in Resident Evil 2 \u2014 by 196%, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands \u2014 by 177%, Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris \u2014 by 131%, Call of Juarez \u2014 by 125%, The Crew \u2014 by 96%, Forza Horizon 5 \u2014 by 48%, and Anger Foot \u2014 by 43%. <\/p>\n
A significant performance boost is achieved by eliminating the overhead associated with using RPC in user space. The creation of a separate driver for the Linux kernel is explained by the difficulties in correctly implementing the NT synchronization API over the existing primitives in the kernel; for example, the NtPulseEvent() operation and the 'wait-for-all' mode in NtWaitForMultipleObjects() require direct management of the wait queue.
